About Play-Ability

Exploring moments of play through color harmony, fabric manipulation, and craft. Jenna VanFleteren creates an exhibition of transformative textiles reminiscent of the domestically familiar.

Created from wave and pin tucks, quilting, and weaving, VanFleteren constructs simple broadcloth into minutely detailed objects, inspired by typologies of the home. Playing with a distinct palette of rose gold, candy pink, and neon green, VanFleteren creates each work as an interactive study of color and craft and as an homage to textiles.

Textiles are a material infused with physical and emotional intimacy, this relationship can be observed through the clothes that adorn us or the objects of comfort that fill our spaces. Though how often do we acknowledge the immense consideration and craft that goes into the finished textiles that give us warmth, protection, and comfort?

Play-Ability + GAS Conference

Opening Reception: Saturday, June 10, 2023, 3-6 PM. On view June 10 -17, 2023.

To celebrate the 2023 Glass Art Society Conference, we are pleased to present works from seven glass artists working in Detroit, in conversation with textiles by designer, Jenna VanFleteren.

Showing works by Yazmin Dababneh, Kim Harty, Matt Kolbrener, Andy Koupal, Mike Mentz, Brent Swanson, and Ryan Thompson.

Experience a monochromatic landscape of making methodologies of objects in clear and white glass. Through de-emphasizing color, each object becomes a specimen of the distinct process with which it was executed, encouraging contemplation of the craft and skill of different modes of glass making.

On view from Saturday, June 10th - Saturday, June 17th. See gallery open hours to plan your visit!
