Presenting Nina Cho and Minji Namkoong

About Encounter

Bringing together two Korean, women artists, Encounter engages harmony in color/form and contrast in material/process as platforms for meditation.

A decade apart, in different disciplines, Cho and Namkoong developed similar aesthetics born from their shared cultural heritage and influenced by their individual experiences moving from South Korea to the United States/Michigan/Detroit.

Furniture designer and artist, Nina Cho, is inspired by the traditional Korean aesthetic of emptiness. Cho creates objects exploring ideas of lightness and reduction, her minimal yet experimental forms blur the line between art object and functional product.

Minji Namkoong is a fiber artist trained in fashion design, tailoring and color theory. Her work is based on traditional Korean stitching techniques such as Jogakbo and Nubi and patterns like the design of the Moon-sal door. Each meticulously hand-sewn work is also a visual journey of seeking harmony through color.
